Late in life, she told her story to the minister James E. Seaver, who published it as a classic "captivity narrative", Narrative of the Life of Mrs. Mary Jemison (1824). Although some early readers thought that Seaver must have imposed his own beliefs, today many history scholars think the memoir is a reasonably accurate account of Jemison's life story and attitude. In 1910 Wm. Pryor Letchworth reworked the original work and included numerous illustrations, further particulars of the history of De-he-wa-mis, and other interesting matters.This pre-1923 publication has been converted from its original version for the Kindle and may contain an occasional defect from the original publication or from the conversion.
